SEND Teaching Assistant

We are supporting a Secondary Special School in South London with their search forĀ a Teaching Assistant to join theirĀ post-16 cohort, focusing on students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This role is particularly suited to individuals with a strong background in Art/Media, as it involves significant interaction with theirĀ KS5 Art and Media courses.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Provide tailored support to post-16 students, particularly those with additional educational needs, within the Art/Media pathways.
  • Utilise effective behaviour management skills to foster a positive learning environment.
  • Support the academic and personal development of students, helping them transition to further education, training, or employment.
  • Work closely with educational staff to implement strategies that cater to SEMH needs.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of SEMH with several years of experience in the field.
  • Proven experience working with post-16 students, including those with additional educational needs.
  • Competence in supporting KS5 Art/Media pathways.
  • Effective behaviour management skills and the ability to foster positive relationships with students.
Desirable Skills and Attributes:
  • Background or qualifications in Art/Media to align with the needs of theĀ KS5 curriculum.
  • A patient and empathetic approach, focusing on supporting young adultsā€™ personal and academic development.
  • Experience in assisting students with transitions to further education, training, or employment.
