SEN Teaching Assistant - Primary School - Waltham Forest

Empowering Learning is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant primary school in Waltham Forest. This is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), supporting them to achieve their full potential in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

Role Overview:

  • Position: SEN Teaching Assistant (ASD/ADHD Support)
  • Location: Waltham Forest, London
  • Start Date: September
  • Contract Type: Full-time, term-time only
  • Duration: Fixed-term for the full academic year, with potential for a permanent role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to children with ASD and ADHD, helping them to engage with the curriculum and classroom activities.
  • Assist the class teacher in creating an inclusive learning environment, adapting lesson materials to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Implement individualized learning plans (ILPs) and behaviour management strategies in line with school policies.
  • Work on a 1:1 basis and in small groups to deliver targeted interventions, fostering positive social interactions and emotional development.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, maintaining accurate records and providing feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Collaborate with the SENCO, teachers, and other support staff to ensure a holistic approach to each child's education and well-being.
  • Promote positive behaviour and a safe learning environment, supporting children to develop self-regulation and coping strategies.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children with SEN, particularly ASD and ADHD, is highly desirable.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children's educational and personal development.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with children, staff, and parents.
  • A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to working with diverse learning needs.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or child development are beneficial, but not essential for the right candidate.
