About the Role:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) in a secondary mainstream school, you will work collaboratively with teachers and the SEN department to provide tailored support to students with additional needs. Your role will focus on enhancing their engagement, learning outcomes, and overall school experience.

What the Role Will Involve:

  • Supporting students with special educational needs in the classroom, in small groups, or on a one-to-one basis.
  • Assisting teachers in implementing personalised learning plans and differentiated activities.
  • Encouraging students’ social and emotional development and fostering positive relationships.
  • Ensuring a safe and inclusive environment that enables all students to engage in learning.
  • Monitoring and reporting on students' progress to teachers and the SEN department.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and managing challenges effectively with patience and understanding.
  • Supporting students during lessons and other school activities, helping them stay focused and motivated.
  • Adhering to school policies and procedures, including safeguarding and child protection protocols.

SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with students with SEN in a secondary school setting is desirable.
  • A relevant qualification, such as CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance, is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with additional needs.
  • A valid Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Proof of the right to work in the UK and two references for background checks.
