An 'Outstanding' Primary school in Haringey is looking for an experienced and approachable SEN TA/Teaching Assistant for a position starting ASAP or in March on a long term contract working with Autistic pupils

Role Information

For this position you will need to be an experienced Teaching Assistant/SEN TA who has worked with pupils who either have Severe Learning Difficulties or who are on the autistic spectrum. All schools are well connected on public transport and are friendly, vibrant parts of London with lots of shops, cafes and bars nearby.

You will mainly be working with Key Stage 1 & Key Stage 2 pupils who all have a diagnosis of autism and have significant delay in their academic and social ability. Many of these students have limited communication skills and as a result experience working with students who have speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) would be advantageous. The school uses PECS and Makaton in class to support the student's communication development.

You will be working in a class of 8 pupils alongside another experienced SEN TA and a specialist SEN Teacher. The children are lovely, very well behaved and enjoy school however you will need to be able to work under your own initiative, have emotional intelligence, be mindful of your tone of voice/choice of words and body language, have good concentration levels, the ability to multitask and bring energy and enthusiasm to the job.

The ideal candidate will have good ASD knowledge and some experience of PECS and Makaton but the key to the job is attitude, and the school are very willing to train someone who shows passion and a willingness to get stuck in!

Please note that personal care (feeding and changing) is a part of the job and applicants who wouldn't be prepared to undertake these tasks after training will not be considered for the post.
