Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support students with special educational needs (SEN) in a positive and inclusive school environment. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children who have a variety of learning, physical, and emotional needs, and will help provide tailored support to ensure that all students can access the curriculum and reach their full potential. This may include children with ADHD, ASD (verbal & non-verbal), PMLD and other complex needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with special educational needs (SEN).
- Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students.
- Support the class teacher in planning and delivering inclusive lessons that accommodate the needs of SEN students.
- Help students with learning tasks, mainly sensory but may including reading, writing, numeracy, and practical activities.
- Promote the inclusion and participation of students with SEN in all aspects of school life.
- Foster a positive and supportive learning environment, encouraging students to build their confidence and independence.
- Assist with the preparation of learning materials and classroom resources.
- Provide personal care and assistance to students with physical disabilities, as required.
- Monitor students' progress and report observations to the SENCO and teachers.
- Implement and manage strategies for behaviour management and promote positive behaviour.
- Attend and participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities.
Requirements:
- A passion for working with children and helping them reach their full potential.
- Previous experience working with children with SEN is desirable but not essential.
- A caring and empathetic nature with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with teachers, parents, and other staff members.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
- A commitment to promoting inclusion and equality within the classroom.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent) are desirable.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience with a variety of SEN conditions (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Dyslexia, PMLD).
- First Aid training.
- Training in specific interventions or programs related to SEN (e.g., speech and language therapy techniques, sensory integration).
- Team Teach training
- Safeguarding training
