Are you passionate about supporting children with additional needs? Do you have experience or a strong interest in Special Educational Needs (SEN)? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our welcoming and supportive primary school in Hackney, London as a SEN Teaching Assistant.

About the Role:

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with children in a mainstream primary school setting, providing tailored support for children with a range of additional needs, including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and other learning difficulties. You will play an integral role in ensuring that all students are able to access the curriculum, feel included, and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support children with ADHD, ASD, and other special educational needs in the classroom.
  • Assist with implementing individualised education plans (IEPs) and tailored learning strategies.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to help children focus, engage, and succeed in their learning.
  • Support classroom teachers with creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Help manage and promote positive behaviour using strategies suited to individual needs.
  • Work closely with other members of staff, including SENCOs, to monitor student progress and adapt support as needed.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to students to build their confidence and social skills.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A passion for working with children and making a difference in their education.
  • Experience supporting children with special educational needs (particularly ADHD and ASD) is desirable, but not essential.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a calm, nurturing approach to supporting children with additional needs.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn and adapt to the needs of the children.
  • A commitment to promoting inclusion and equality for all children in the classroom.
