Early Years SEN Teaching Assistant - Specialist Provision - Brent - ASAP Start

Long Term Futures, a leading education recruitment agency, is looking for a dedicated Early Years SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist early years setting in Brent. This full-time role will start immediately after the Easter break and run for the remainder of the academic year, with potential for a permanent position from September.

The School:

This specialist early years provision is dedicated to supporting children aged 3 to 5 years old with a range of special educational needs, including Autism (ASD), speech and language difficulties, and sensory processing disorders. The school provides a nurturing and structured environment where children receive tailored support to help them develop communication, social, and independent learning skills.

With a multi-disciplinary team of SEN professionals, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, and specialist teachers, the setting ensures that every child receives the highest quality support. The school promotes a play-based learning approach, incorporating sensory activities and structured routines to help children thrive.



The Role:

As an Early Years SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting children with complex needs, helping them to access learning in a way that meets their individual needs. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-on-one and small group support to children with SEN

  • Assisting with communication development, using techniques such as PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and Makaton (training provided if needed)

  • Supporting children with sensory and behavioural needs, implementing tailored strategies to help them regulate emotions and engage with learning

  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, and parents to ensure a consistent approach to each child's development

  • Helping to create a stimulating and supportive learning environment with structured activities that promote progress

  • Assisting with personal care tasks where necessary (training provided if required)



What We Are Looking For:

  • Experience working in an early years or special needs setting

  • Knowledge or experience of supporting children with Autism (ASD), speech and language difficulties, or sensory processing disorders

  • Understanding of PECS, Makaton, or sensory integration techniques (desirable but not essential)

  • A patient, compassionate, and proactive approach to working with young children

  • A Level 2 or Level 3 childcare qualification (desirable but not essential)
