SEN Teaching Assistant

We are working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school located in Lewisham, dedicated to providing a supportive environment for children with special educational needs. Our school is seeking a caring and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support children in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The children you'll be working with may have special needs such as autism, and some may be non-verbal. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a rewarding role where you can make a real difference to the lives of young learners.

In this role, your main responsibility will be working with children with special needs on a one-to-one basis. The needs of the children include autism and learning difficulties. Some children will also be non-verbal.

This primary school in the heart of Lewisham have on site parking and easy transport links. The Headteacher is keen to speak to teaching assistants that are experienced in working with young children with special needs. This is a one-year fixed term contract with a few to transition permanent at the end of the year, working Monday to Friday 8.30am to 3.30pm during term time.

Interviews and trial days will be commencing as soon as possible.

School/Role Information:

  • Supporting children with special needs in Key Stage 1
  • Monday to Friday
  • 30am to 3.30pm, term time only
  • £84-£100 per a day (paid to experience)
  • ASAP Start

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Working one-to-one within an intervention room and classroom
  • To follow and adapt class teachers plans as well as think creatively on how to engage the child
  • To be able to give feedback to the class teacher, school SENCO and sometimes parents
  • To be able to think on the spot as the child can become dysregulated very quickly and will not always want to follow the plan for the day

Required Experience:

  • Experience working with young children
  • Must have SEN experience of over a year working with children with complex needs
  • Experience supporting children with learning difficulties or disabilities
  • To be able to communicate well with staff as we are constantly monitoring targets
