GSL Education are seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join an outstanding-rated and highly supportive school in Tower Hamlets. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for individuals with SEN experience to thrive in a rewarding and nurturing educational environment.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with diverse learning needs. Working closely with teachers and the SENCO, you will help create an inclusive and positive environment where all students can succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, what you’ll have to do:

  • Provide one-to-one and group support to students with SEN, tailored to their individual needs.
  • Assist the class teacher in adapting and delivering engaging lessons and activities.
  • Implement personalised learning strategies, individual education plans (IEPs), and behaviour management plans.
  • Encourage the development of students’ social skills, independence, and self-confidence.
  • Support students in accessing the curriculum, ensuring they can engage and progress.
  • Monitor and document students’ progress, reporting regularly to the SENCO and teaching staff.
  • Work collaboratively with school staff and external professionals to ensure the best outcomes for students.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Provide personal care and additional support as required for individual students.

SEN TA Requirements:

  • CACHE Level 3 or NVQ 2/3 for Teaching Assistant or childcare is essential.
  • A degree in Psychology, Education or in a similar field.
  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, ideally in a school setting as an SEN Teaching Assistant.
  • A patient, empathetic, and positive approach to working with students with additional needs.
  • Knowledge about SEN-related issues, especially about Autism, SEMH, ADHD and other learning difficulties.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one.
