Are you an experienced and patient SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a meaningful role where you can truly make a difference? Tradewind Recruitment is working with a lovely primary school in Wood Street, Walthamstow, that is seeking a dedicated individual to provide 1-1 support for a Year 2 pupil with suspected Autism who also presents with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA).

The Role:

This rewarding position involves supporting a child in Year 2 who requires a consistent and nurturing approach to learning. The pupil benefits from clear structure, flexible strategies, and a calm, understanding adult to help them engage with the curriculum. As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to create a supportive and enabling learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing dedicated 1-1 support to a Year 2 pupil with suspected Autism and PDA.
  • Using flexible and low demand approaches to encourage engagement and reduce anxiety.
  • Building trust and creating a safe, supportive learning space.
  • Implementing personalised strategies in line with SENCO and external professional advice.
  • Supporting emotional regulation and social interactions in a positive and patient manner.
  • Working collaboratively with school staff and parents to ensure the child's progress and well-being.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children with Autism, PDA, or other complex needs.
  • A calm, adaptable, and empathetic approach to supporting children's learning.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with staff and families.
