Veritas Education are working with a small OFSTED rated Good school based in Deptford who are looking to hire a SEN teaching assistant to work with students one to one and support within the classroom. Your role would involve working closely with students 1:1 and helping to manage behaviour and learning in a small class on a full time contract. The successful SEN teaching assistant will work independently as well as closely with teaching staff to deliver specialised 1:1 sessions for students.

The school are committed to providing a fun, safe and nurturing environment in which they can support the achievements of every child. You will be helping deliver an exciting curriculum as a SEN teaching assistant where children are encouraged to explore, discover and question via an enriching learning experience. They recognise and celebrate the talents of each child, enabling them to grow in confidence in both their educational and personal lives. As a SEN teaching assistant, you will work closely with parents, carers and families as a part of the wider community.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A SEN TEACHING ASSISTANT

SEN Teaching Assistant support for Pupils:

  • Support pupils to make good academic progress, under the direction of the teacher and Inclusion leader
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence
  • Implement group or 1:1 interventions to support pupils who have emotional or social barriers to learning
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils

SEN Teaching Assistant Support for Teachers:

  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupils' work
  • Use strategies, under the direction of the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals
  • Discuss with the teacher how learning activities are to be organised and what their own support role will be

Qualifications needs as a SEN Teaching Assistant:

Essential:

  • SEN experience/ relevant Teaching Asisstant Qualifications
  • Good literacy skills - GCSE Grade C or above in English Language; Level 2 English or above; or equivalent
  • Good numeracy skills- GCSE Grade C or above in Maths; Level 2 Maths or above; or equivalent
