GSL Education are seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) with expertise in Special Educational Needs (SEN) support to join a fantastic school in Newham. About the role:
In the role of a SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you will play a pivotal role in the classroom, working closely with teachers, SENCOs and other support staff to ensure students receive high-quality, individualised support. The position requires an empathetic, patient and proactive approach to assist students with learning difficulties, physical disabilities and complex needs. You will also provide personal care support, including assistance with nappy changing, where necessary.
Responsibilities of the SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA):
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEN, helping them engage with the curriculum.
- Assist with personal care needs, including nappy changing, ensuring a comfortable and dignified experience for students.
- Implement tailored learning strategies and interventions to support academic progress.
- Encourage social and emotional development, fostering a positive learning environment.
- Adapt teaching materials and classroom activities to meet individual needs.
- Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours using positive reinforcement techniques.
- Support students with mobility and physical needs, including assisting with movement around the school.
- Work closely with teachers, therapists and parents to ensure holistic student development.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and support strategies.
- Promote independence and self-confidence among students, encouraging them to reach their full potential.
Requirements of the SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA):
- Previous experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant, particularly in a school or specialist setting.
- Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2/3, a Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent experience.
- Experience supporting children with a range of SEN, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language difficulties and physical disabilities.
- Ability to support with nappy changing and personal care needs as required.
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.
- Strong behaviour management skills, with the ability to de-escalate challenging situations.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a proactive and patient approach.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
