Role Overview:

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Special Needs Teaching Assistant to support students with diverse learning needs at our school in Newham. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with children with special educational needs (SEN) and a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive, nurturing learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing one-on-one or small group support to students with special needs, tailored to their individual education plans (IEPs)
  • Assisting the classroom teacher in delivering differentiated lessons and activities
  • Supporting students' social, emotional, and educational development
  • Working closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other staff to implement effective support strategies
  • Promoting independence and confidence in students with additional needs
  • Helping with personal care, mobility, and any specific requirements based on individual needs

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a Special Needs Teaching Assistant is essential
  • Understanding of various SEN, such as autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and other learning disabilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards supporting students with diverse needs
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the teaching team and contribute to a positive learning environment
