Responsibilities:

  • Identify and implement the most effective teaching approaches for SEN pupils.
  • Monitor teaching and learning activities to ensure they meet the needs of SEN pupils.
  • Liaise with other schools to ensure continuity of support and learning when transferring SEN pupils.
  • Promote inclusive best practices and contribute to the ethos of the school.
  • Set targets to raise achievement among SEN pupils and other groups as appropriate.
  • Collect and interpret specialist assessment data, sharing this with staff.
  • Develop systems for identifying, assessing, and reviewing SEN provision, including EHC plans and provision maps, in collaboration with class teachers and support staff.
  • Regularly update the headteacher on the effectiveness of SEN provision.
  • Keep parents informed about their child's progress through individual meetings and at parents' evenings.
  • Ensure staff fulfil their statutory responsibilities to SEN pupils.
  • Provide training opportunities for teaching and support staff to improve their knowledge of inclusion and best practices, including whole school INSET.
  • Manage the SEN budget and identify necessary resources to meet the needs of SEN pupils.
  • Supervise and manage learning support assistants, including performance management.
  • Support pupil progress meetings and maintain accurate records of provision maps.
  • Liaise with the Educational Psychology Service and other specialist agencies.
  • Lead CPD on inclusion matters across the school.
  • Work with the headteacher to plan and deploy teaching assistants effectively throughout the school.
  • Coordinate the identification, assessment, and monitoring of SEN pupils, including managing the SEN register and review processes.
  • Oversee the pastoral care and well-being of SEN pupils.
  • Develop networks with outside agencies, including local cluster groups and neighbouring schools.
  • Undertake any reasonable task as requested by the headteacher to support safeguarding efforts.
  • Willingness to assume the role of Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead alongside the headteacher.

Requirements:

  • National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) is essential.
  • Enhanced DBS check is required.
