The unit supports seven children, each with an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) and varying degrees of Autism. The role is full-time and offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on the lives of these children, helping them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching and Learning:Plan, deliver, and assess personalized learning programs tailored to meet the diverse needs and abilities of children with Autism.
- Individualized Support:Work closely with the children to implement EHCP targets, ensuring each child receives the support they need to achieve their potential.
- Classroom Management:Create a structured and nurturing environment that fosters engagement, independence, and positive behavior.
- Collaboration:Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to provide holistic support for each child.
- Teamwork:Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and other staff members to deliver high-quality, inclusive education.
- Assessment and Progress Tracking:Monitor and record each child's progress, adapting strategies as necessary to meet their individual goals.
- Development:Stay informed about best practices in SEN education, particularly Autism, and participate in relevant training opportunities.
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Proven experience working with children with Autism and other SEN needs.
- Strong knowledge of the Autism spectrum and effective strategies to support learning and development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a commitment to supporting the individual needs of each child.
Desirable Qualities
- Experience working in a specialist SEN setting or unit.
- Additional training in SEN (e.g., Autism-specific courses, Makaton, PECS).
- Knowledge of sensory integration and therapy strategies.
