What ASEND Tuition Is

We are looking for inspirational tutors to support children and young people with SEND in Newham. We support pupils with SEND who are not attending school for a number of reasons including Mental Health issues, or lack of a suitable school place. We aim to prepare them for a return to mainstream or special school.

About the role

We are looking for a tutor who has a good understanding of a total communication approach to support a non-verbal autistic pupil in East Ham. Our pupil is an 11 year old boy with Down Syndrome. He is non-verbal and needs support to develop his communication skills further. So far, he has been communicating using PECS and using facial expressions, gestures and pointing. He is a happy and expressive child, who has a creative streak as he enjoys drawing and colouring. He likes to stay active and engage in different sports such as football and gymnastics.

A tutor who is fun and engaging would be a great match for our pupil’s personality. The ideal tutor should have experience working with non-verbal pupils to provide a total communication approach to his learning that is play-based. Someone who is sensitive and empathetic would be essential, as the pupil has experienced some challenges in his life.
