About Our Client:

This trade union represents over 120,000 academics, lecturers, trainers, instructors, researchers, managers, administrators, computer staff, librarians and postgraduates in universities, colleges, prisons, adult education and training organisations across the UK.  We also have members in the private sector, for example in private training agencies and language schools, as well as members working on a freelance basis. Students training to teach in post-school education also belong to the trade union.

 

Equality Support Official – The Role:

Our client is seeking an Equality Support Official to join the Equality and Policy team for a fixed term of 3 months. In this exciting role, based in their Head Office in NW1 7LH, and reporting to the Head of Equality and Policy, your core duties will be:

- Contributing to and overseeing the development and implementation of the trade unions policies and strategies in the equality

- Leading on specific issues and projects 

- Managing internal and external projects

- Being Secretary to the equality standing committee including preparing agenda; ensuring efficient administration of its business; overseeing minutes and progressing outcomes

- Monitoring the implementation of equality agreements (policies) at institutional level providing guidance, support and advice 

- Representing the trade union on external bodies and at external meetings 

 

Equality Support Official – You:
- You must be educated to GCSE level or equivalent (inc. maths & English)

- Knowledge of the post-compulsory education system

- Commitment to and knowledge of equality and diversity issues

- Knowledge of anti-discrimination legislation. 

- Knowledge about raising awareness around equality issues. 

- Experience of developing and implementing equality and diversity policy

- Good communication, interpersonal and advocacy skills and an ability to influence and persuade others

- The role would suit someone with experience of a similar working environment and/or understanding of working for a trade union or other not-for-profit organisation
