Location: Hybrid (Travel to an office 2-3 days per week)
Locations: Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester or York
Contract Duration: 6+ months (ASAP start - April 2025)
Rate: 51 - 64 per hour - PAYE (Umbrella)

We are seeking a Senior Estimator or Estimating Manager to join a leading consultancy, supporting major rail and infrastructure projects across the UK and Ireland. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to work on complex and high-profile projects for an established, leading name within the UK's rail and infrastructure sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support estimates from feasibility to detailed design, producing high-level order of magnitude costs and first-principles estimates.
  • Develop activity schedules and bills of quantities.
  • Undertake detailed quantity take-offs using industry-standard methods of measurement and estimating software.
  • Ensure comprehensive inclusion of indirect costs and fees within estimates.
  • Engage effectively with engineers, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate cost assessments.
  • Act as a key client-facing representative, particularly for projects in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
  • Review and guide junior estimator's work, providing mentorship and quality assurance.
  • Prepare detailed basis-of-estimate reports for director-level review.
  • Benchmark outputs against market data to validate estimates.
  • Support estimating for bids and contribute to technical development.


About You

  • Background in estimating, quantity surveying or cost management with extensive experience in the rail sector.
  • Strong knowledge of estimating software and industry-standard measurement methods.
  • Experience managing estimates across complex infrastructure projects.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and client-facing skills.
  • Ability to work independently while mentoring junior team members.


This is a long term contract position to be paid on a PAYE basis via an umbrella company. The rate on offer is 51 to 64 per hour.
