Wayleave Warden – Canary Wharf, London – TEMPORARY 1 YEAR+

VGC Group Limited are looking to recruit a Wayleave Warden on a temporary 1-year+ contract for an international infrastructure group delivering the UK’s power generation solutions based in Canary Wharf.

  • Up to £350 per day
  • Site-based 5 days per week Mon-Fri

Accountabilities

Coordinate third-party consents and submit formal applications in line with the project schedule and team requirements. This may involve securing approvals for road and footpath closures from local authorities, obtaining planning permissions for access routes from public highways, and submitting applications to organizations such as the Rivers and Canals Trust.

Liaise with the Client’s Wayleave Warden to confirm agreed access, identify Grantor details, and address any specific requirements. Maintain daily communication with the Client and Project Team regarding access to Grantor properties, ensuring Grantors are kept informed of all necessary activities.

Prepare a weekly schedule outlining Grantor concerns to inform project staff of any specific access restrictions or requirements. Document site conditions through photographic or video records before access and maintain a final condition record upon site completion

Site Coordination & Land Access

Liaise with the Client Wayleave Officer, visiting each site alongside the Engineer and General Foreman to:

    • Confirm land take areas and access to work positions and towers.
    • Discuss delivery methods and damage limitation.
    • Ensure tree/shrub clearance requirements are documented in the wayleave schedule and cleared as needed.

Service Identification & Ground Scanning

  • Identify and mark underground and overhead services using:
    • Drawings, markers, and third-party information.
    • Appropriate ground scanning techniques.

Stakeholder Engagement & Regulatory Compliance

  • Liaise with Local Authorities, Highways Agency, Police, and other relevant bodies for any required road or footpath closures or restrictions.
  • Work alongside the Client Wayleave Officer to address daily issues related to:
    • Grantors and access issues.
    • Changes in access routes.

Access Route & Mapping Control

  • Establish a procedure to inform the Project Team of changes in access routes
  • Implement a system to control access maps, ensuring only up-to-date drawings are used.

Risk Assessment & Compliance

  • Review all method statements and risk assessments related to Wayleave activities.
  • Conduct Management Safety Representative (MSR) checks in coordination with the site engineering team and H&S advisor.

Project Administration & Reporting

  • Update the locations board daily.
  • Ensure all visitors are inducted into the project and Balfour Beatty safety protocols.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Understanding of agriculture and Grantor/land agent requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Full driving license.
  • Basic understanding of civil engineering and excavation works. (desirable)
  • Knowledge and experience in Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations (desirable)
  • Familiarity with underground/overhead utilities (desirable)
  • Understanding of traffic management legislation (desirable)
