Are you a seasoned Commercial Building Surveyor looking for a dynamic role within a local authority environment?

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Building Surveyor to join a forward-thinking team to work on a variety of public sector projects. This role involves maintaining, refurbishing, and ensuring compliance of commercial properties, while also playing a key role in managing on-site operations and liaising with various stakeholders.You will have a strong technical understanding of building pathology and construction, a proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget, and expertise in stakeholder management. With the ability to build and maintain effective relationships, you'll also be skilled in writing detailed reports, updating senior management, and providing expert advice on complex projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess and report on the condition of various commercial properties owned by the local authority, identifying any structural defects, maintenance needs, or compliance issues.
  • Provide advice on dilapidation disputes, prepare schedules, and oversee refurbishment projects.
  • Manage contracts for building projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard.
  • Assess potential building projects, advising on risks and opportunities while prioritizing the local authority's needs.
  • Undertake technical assessments for acquisitions, disposals, or repurposing of council-owned commercial properties.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
  • Degree in Building Surveying (minimum 10 years of experience in a similar role is essential).
  • CIOB or RICS accreditation is highly desirable. Prince2 certification is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of building services (mechanical and electrical), and experience dealing with contract administration and commercial refurbishments.
  • Must have a background in managing commercial buildings like offices, leisure centres, and other community facilities.
  • Ability to manage contractors effectively and navigate complex contractual disputes with confidence.
