HIA Surveyor

Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Health Impact Assessment Surveyor to join their team, playing a crucial role in improving the quality of life for older, disabled, and vulnerable individuals. This position focuses on delivering high-quality home adaptations that enhance safety, accessibility, and overall well-being, allowing residents to maintain their independence and remain in their homes.

Role Overview

As an HIA Surveyor, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive property surveys, designing and commissioning adaptation works, and overseeing projects from initial assessment through to completion. You will ensure that all works are carried out to a high standard, within budget, and in compliance with relevant regulations. Working closely with service users, contractors, and key stakeholders, you will provide expert guidance, ensuring that home improvement solutions are tailored to meet individual needs.

This role requires an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring the timely completion of works while maintaining high levels of customer service and engagement. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will be working directly with vulnerable individuals, providing them with clear advice and support throughout the adaptation process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake detailed property surveys to assess the feasibility of home adaptations, considering technical requirements and cost-effective solutions.
  • Design, tender, commission, and supervise home improvement works, ensuring they meet the specific needs of older, disabled, and vulnerable individuals.
  • Manage the end-to-end delivery of adaptation projects, from initial assessment and feasibility studies to contractor coordination and final inspections.
  • Prepare accurate specifications, schedules of work, and technical drawings to ensure clarity in project execution.
  • Maintain and manage a list of approved contractors, ensuring adherence to quality standards, policies, and value-for-money principles.
  • Seek competitive tenders for building works, evaluate bids, and instruct contractors, overseeing progress to ensure timely and high-quality completion.
  • Engage directly with service users and their families, keeping them informed at every stage of the adaptation process and addressing any concerns.
  • Work in collaboration with internal departments and external agencies to deliver a seamless service for residents.
  • Ensure compliance with the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) requirements and other regulatory frameworks.
  • Conduct post-completion inspections to verify that works meet the required standards and deliver the intended benefits for residents.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • A formal qualification in building surveying or a related technical field, or a recognised technical qualification in a building-related discipline.
  • Experience in conducting surveys for disability adaptations and an in-depth knowledge of the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) process.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple projects and ensure their successful completion within time and budget constraints.
  • Proven experience in creating schedules of work, including technical drawings, and managing the delivery of adaptations from inception to completion.
