Position: Senior Technical Designer (Design & Build)

The Company:

My client London based design, build, and project management company. Working together with a variety of clients creating boutique environments that maximise the effectiveness of their property. We advise and support our clients to create design led spaces that exceed expectations, delivered on time and to budget.

Purpose of the Role:

Providing creative designers with concept design technical support and development

Create accurate, concise working and installation technical drawings and supporting information as required, fully coordinated with specialist contractors and consultants

Undertake detailed verification surveys

Attend project meetings / site visits and manage

Key Responsibilities:

Manage multiple projects technical packages of a basic or complex nature

Working with the Project Designer validating and establishing technical strategies for key projects

Taking technical design ownership of projects, liaising directly with the sub-contractors from the concept stage through the design process to delivery and handover

To manage and maintain open stakeholder and sub-contractor relationships (working along-side the Project Designer, Pre-Construction and Delivery teams)

Working within a project team, including wider disciplines to ensure fully coordinated solutions

Working with Pre-Construction (commercial managers) to ensure the design, scope and cost alignment

Working with Project Managers and Contractors to ensure the design integrity and provide specification support

Carrying out measured and verification surveys on a variety of scales

Prepare and develop technical packages

Building control dialogue and approval

Prepare and submit local authority approvals

Preparation of design and construction documents

Liaison and coordination with sub-contractors throughout the design and construction process

Working to building and planning regulations

Research and specification of a variety of materials, products and their application

Manage filing and document management, surveys and designers site activities

Promote continual learning about new design software as well as marketplace trends

Produce designs in line with environmental and sustainable accreditations where applicable

Promote best practice in all designs

Skills & Competencies:

Excellent level of design and technical skills with a high level of attention to detail

Strong understanding of building services design and coordination

Ability to meet tight deadlines and able to work alone or with a team

Must be AutoCAD fluent. Specific areas of knowledge including external referencing of drawings, layering of drawings, AutoCAD standards and use of palettes and templates

An understanding of SketchUp and other 3D rendering is preferred

An understanding of Adobe Pro suite and Microsoft Office suite (incl InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Publisher and PowerPoint) is critical

Independent personal development (i.e. in areas including workplace trends and new technologies)

The candidate must be able to manage own time and workload effectively, often working to short timescales and across multiple projects

The candidate must have an eye for technical coordination and clash detection

Ability to demonstrate technical packages for client sign-off and production stage milestones

Contributions to Environmental, Wellness and Sustainability led projects

A good understanding of current and future fabrications and industry innovations

Must have a good knowledge of, and ability to implement compliance and building regulations

Further development of role / objectives

Space planning & Technical detailing

Development of CAD blocks alongside tool palettesContinued development of technical and innovative designs, thinking outside of the box and implementing new knowledge

Build up a knowledge of client sites and continually develop client and stakeholder relationships

Administration of drawings and project folders

Administration of external project host system

Familiarity with ISO and experience in working within ISO 19001 management systems

Knowledge of a design duties under the HSA Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013

Candidate must be able to manage own time and workload effectively, working reactively to requests and often working to short timescales

Commercial awareness relating to the value of materials and budgets

Education:

Academic degree or equivalent

Experience:

Mut have experiencewithin the Design & Build, working on projects of varying value and complexity. Site experience and sub-contractor coordination is essential.
