Our client, within the public sector, is seeking a Principal Strategic Transport Planner on a contract basis to join their team in North London.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and agreement of strategic transport policies and initiatives.
  • Identify, assess, define, and develop policies that support the implementation of The Council's Long Term Transport Strategy.
  • Identify opportunities to maximise inward investment.
  • Ensure timely delivery of Section 106 funding from developers towards transport improvements.
  • Monitor progress and report on policies and programme budgets in conjunction with the Transportation Manager.
  • Lead the review of Council transport policy.
  • Promote and manage behaviour change to encourage more sustainable and active travel.
  • Present projects, policies, and strategies at meetings and events, including occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Attend site visits with council officers, members, and the public.
  • Support other council departments in projects aligning with the Long Term Transport Strategy.
  • Maintain and improve knowledge of local and national planning and transport policies.
  • Prepare reports and represent the Transportation service at Committees and other meetings.
  • Assist the Transportation Manager and senior management as directed.
  • Undertake additional duties as required by the Transportation Manager.


Job Requirements:

  • Experience in strategic transport planning and policy development.
  • Strong knowledge of transport planning principles and legislation.
  • Proficiency in monitoring financial outputs and maximising inward investment.
  • Ability to manage and deliver transport improvement projects.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong project management and organisational abilities.
  • Experience with Section 106 funding agreements.
  • Capability to work collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of sustainable and active travel promotion strategies.
