The Greater London Authority (GLA) is looking for a dedicated and ambitious Strategic Planner to join their dynamic team on a temporary basis, covering maternity leave until June 2025. This is an exciting opportunity to directly influence London’s growth by working on key strategic initiatives, including the London Plan, which sets the vision for how the city will evolve.

In this role, you’ll be at the heart of London’s urban development, working on significant areas like housing, transport, infrastructure, and sustainability. You’ll help craft policies that shape the future of the city while collaborating with a variety of stakeholders, including boroughs, government agencies, and developers. Your work will have a lasting impact, helping to create a better, more inclusive, and sustainable London.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the London Plan, ensuring policies reflect current trends and needs
  • Provide expert advice on strategic planning issues, from housing and transport to the built environment and sustainability
  • Assist with the processing of major planning applications, working closely with local boroughs and other key players
  • Support the preparation of Opportunity Area Planning Frameworks (OAPFs) to guide development in high-growth areas of London
  • Research and analyse spatial development trends to inform policy decisions

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Grade 6: You should be progressing towards a planning degree (or equivalent) and be eligible for Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) membership
  • Grade 7: You should have a planning qualification with at least one year of post-qualification experience
  • A strong understanding of national, regional, and local planning issues is essential, along with excellent analytical and communication skills.
