MERITUS are recruiting for a User Researcher to join our client within National Security consulting in a permanent position from their site in London. PLEASE NOTE: The role will require 4 days per week onsite availability. Due to the sensitive nature of the work, you must be able to commit to 4 days per week onsite.

USER RESEARCHER - 70,000 PER ANNUM - LONDON (4 DAYS PER WEEK ONSITE) - DV CLEARED (MUST HAVE EXISTING DV TO APPLY) - 2 STAGE INTERVIEW PROCESS

Our client is seeking a User Researcher to join our multidisciplinary User Centred Design Capability, working on high-profile customer programmes across government, defence, security, and private sector organisations.

As a User Researcher, you will play a key role in designing and delivering user-centred services, conducting research that drives impactful and effective digital solutions. Whether it's a rapid discovery phase for an education product, usability testing a critical regulatory service, or informing a large-scale business transformation in healthcare, your insights will shape services that make a real difference.

We are currently recruiting for a Mid/Senior Level User Researcher to support a Government Defence/Security customer. Current DV Clearance (UKIC) is essential. This role is primarily based in London (4 days a week on-site).




Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the UCD Practice and User Research Capability Leads, your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning & Execution: Conducting user research using appropriate qualitative and quantitative methodologies for different project phases.

  • Insights & Analysis: Synthesising research findings into actionable insights to inform service design and strategy.

  • User Testing: Evaluating service designs at different stages, from paper prototypes to fully interactive digital services.

  • Stakeholder Communication: Presenting research findings clearly and persuasively, enabling evidence-based decision-making.

  • User Advocacy: Promoting user needs and fostering a culture of empathy and inclusion within teams.

  • Equity & Accessibility: Championing inclusive research practices and addressing biases in research planning and execution.

  • Best Practice Collaboration: Contributing to our client's wider User Research community by sharing knowledge and methodologies.




About You

To excel in this role, you should have:

  • Experience: 3+ years of commercial experience in user research, either as a dedicated researcher or as part of a user-centred design/service design team.

  • Research Methods: Proficiency in a range of qualitative and quantitative research techniques to understand user behaviours.

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to align research objectives with wider project goals and organisational strategies.

  • Artefact Development: Experience in creating user needs documentation, personas, journey maps, service blueprints, and insights reports.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Strong communication skills to present findings, manage relationships, and influence decision-making.

  • Proactive Approach: A self-starter mindset with a drive for continuous improvement.

  • Creativity & Innovation: Ability to think outside the box and explore new approaches.
