We are seeking an enthusiastic and empathetic Functional Skills Tutor to join our team on a part-time basis.

Role Overview: As a Part-Time Functional Skills Tutor, you will play a key role in delivering tailored Functional Skills education (Maths, English, and Science) to students with special educational needs (SEN) or social emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges. You will work with small groups or on a one-to-one basis to help students build confidence, develop essential life skills, and work towards achieving their qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality Functional Skills tuition in Maths, English, and Science to students in SEN/SEMH settings.
  • Develop personalized learning plans to meet the individual needs of each student.
  • Create engaging and interactive lesson plans, resources, and assessments.
  • Support students in overcoming barriers to learning, promoting positive behavior, and encouraging social and emotional development.
  • Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider team, including SENCo, teaching assistants, and other professionals.
  • Maintain accurate records of students' progress and achievements.
  • Ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.

Person Specification:

  • Experience working in an SEN/SEMH setting is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong knowledge of Functional Skills curriculum (Maths, English, Science).
  • A passion for working with students who have diverse learning needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit the needs of individual learners.
  • Patience, empathy, and a calm approach to supporting students with additional needs.
  • A relevant teaching qualification (e.g., PTLLS, Cert Ed, or equivalent) is desirable.

Each candidate will be subject to a DBS and police check where required. A successful candidate will also provide at least two references from their previous employer/s.
