A passionate Wine Waiter/ Waitress / Sommelier with previous experience is needed to join our team at Lady of the Grapes, a busy organic wine bar in the heart of Covent Garden in London, on a full-time basis.

Lady of the Grapes is supporting and showcasing female winemakers and a better viticulture.

The successful candidate will have extensive wine knowledge, be a natural wine lover, and have good communication skills.

We are looking for someone willing to accompany the business’ long-term development and keen to grow with the company.

About Us

We serve great-quality, seasonal ingredients, classical and modern French cuisine, and delicious natural, biodynamic, and organic wines made by female winemakers. The wine list is an impressive collection of more than 350 different wines from the great vintages and producers, with tasting flights available.

We ensure our Sommeliers are invited to meet producers, attend tastings and have all the opportunities to develop and thrive in their Sommelier career.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrating exceptional knowledge of our wine list and giving the best recommendations to our guests
  • Take food & wine orders, be sure they are satisfied
  • Build a rapport with our regular guests
  • Be sure the service standards are reached all the time
  • Ensure that all wine is served in proper glassware and in proper condition
  • Maintain familiarity with menu items: New wines (by glass or bottles), food menu changes
  • Do stock-taking weekly with the team, check and organise fridges for service, cellar and shelves
  • Communicate to the team any low and sold out stock
  • Keep the cellar tidy and organised, anticipate wine by the glass stock and rotation
  • Help to select new wines to put by our the glass selection
  • Present wines to customers, with wine stories and wine description
  • Participate in the tastings with our suppliers and our winemakers: select wines to add on our list with the rest of the team
  • Be reliable and a team player

Required Experience:

  • Experience as a wine waitress / waiter, sommelier, wine advisor or in the wine industry
  • Be passionate about wine and food pairing
  • Be interested about organic, biodynamic and natural wines
  • Minimum WSET level 2 is required

Required Skills:

  • Calm under pressure
  • Organised and tidy
  • Be able to smooth service when busy
  • Self-motivated with a positive “can do” attitude to all tasks
  • Have a good customer service skill
  • Knowledge and passion for French food, cheese and charcuterie is a plus
  • Good oral communication skills
  • Be punctual and reliable
  • Must have a right to work in the UK
