This role is crucial to their mission of expanding influence in accessibility and ensuring that services align with inclusion and diversity goals. As a Digital Accessibility Specialist, you'll support the team with expert guidance, develop innovative, customer-focused products, and represent accessibility at industry events and among key partners.Main Responsibilities as Digital Accessibility Specialist
- Process Enhancement: Develop and improve systems for efficient delivery within accessibility services.
- Team Expertise: Support internal teams with digital accessibility audits, maintaining high standards and innovative approaches.
- Technology Insight: Conduct horizon scanning to incorporate advancements such as AI and tools like PowerMapper.
- Quality Improvement: Drive service improvements based on WCAG, W3C guidelines, and customer insights.
- Client Collaboration: Partner with the sales team and key stakeholders to address complex accessibility barriers and work toward WCAG compliance.
- Consultancy: Explore onsite consultancy opportunities for strategic customers, fostering upselling potential.
- Knowledge Sharing: Stay updated on accessibility trends, sharing insights with internal teams.
- Industry Influence: Represent the organization at conferences and within professional networks to promote accessibility.
- Community Networking: Build relationships with accessibility influencers, such as the Gov.UK Accessibility Community and W3C Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI).
- Advocacy and Documentation: Champion accessibility, both internally and externally, while developing and maintaining best practice documentation.
RequirementsTechnical Skills
- Proficient in HTML, CSS, and digital accessibility principles, with knowledge of JavaScript (Essential)
- Familiar with assistive technology (JAWS, Dragon, ZoomText) and accessibility features for Windows and macOS (Essential)
- Awareness of website design principles and how accessibility and usability impact them (Essential)
- UX/UI principles knowledge (Essential)
- Certifications in accessibility (e.g., CPACC, WAS, CPWA) are advantageous (Desirable)
Experience
- Proven experience in accessibility consultancy or a digital agency (Essential)
- Experience conducting accessibility audits and user testing to WCAG standards (Essential)
- Track record of providing accessibility training and workshops (Essential)
