About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic BSL Level 2 Teaching Assistant to support students who use British Sign Language (BSL) as their primary mode of communication. You will work closely with teachers to assist in the learning of deaf and hearing-impaired students, ensuring they have full access to the curriculum and classroom activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students who use BSL as their primary mode of communication.
  • Assist in classroom activities and provide individual support to students.
  • Facilitate communication between students and staff, using BSL when necessary.
  • Help students access and understand lesson content, supporting their participation in group work and activities.
  • Ensure the classroom is a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all students.
  • Work closely with teachers and other professionals to monitor student progress and provide feedback.
  • Support students during breaks and transitions throughout the day.

Key Requirements

  • A valid BSL Level 2 qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children or young people, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of students with hearing impairments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of inclusive education practices.
  • Ability to work under the guidance of a teacher while using your initiative to support students effectively.
  • A positive, proactive attitude and a passion for supporting students' learning and development.

Desirable Skills

  • BSL Level 3 or higher qualification (though not essential).
  • Previous experience working in a school or educational setting.
