Automation/Manufacturing & Engineering background only, no IT

Ā£300 - Ā£380 per day (Outside IR35) dependant on location

Initial 6-month contract (Monday to Friday 0700 ā€“ 1700)Ā 

Test Managers will be required post-commissioning to perform final system testing.

Commissioning Engineer Responsibilities

The Test Manager ensures the technical delivery of automated systems meets Dematicā€™s ā€œas soldā€ requirements. This includes planning and conducting on-site testing, validating system performance, and securing customer approval. Collaboration with System Integration Managers, commissioning engineers, and client representatives is key to resolving issues and meeting testing objectives.


Key Duties:

  • Testing & Validation
  • Develop and execute test plans (e.g. Site Acceptance Tests, Performance Tests)
  • Ensure systems meet specifications and align with customer needs
  • Validate safety systems, material flow, and communication between PLC and WMS/WCS
  • Issue Management
  • Track and resolve issues using tools like Jira
  • Coordinate re-testing and confirm defect fixes
  • Volume Testing
  • Perform stress testing to identify system bottlenecks
  • Coordination & Reporting
  • Provide updates to the Lead SIM and Project Manager
  • Supply data for reports and dashboards
  • Client Engagement
  • Act as the main contact for customer testing requirements
  • Build strong relationships through clear communication
  • Software Oversight
  • Oversee WCS and PLC testing during automation processes.

Skills & Experience:

  • Technical Knowledge
  • Strong expertise in automation systems (e.g., conveyors, cranes, TMS, shuttles)
  • Familiar with PLC, SCADA, and system messaging validation
  • Electrical and mechanical system knowledge (qualifications would be advantagous)
  • Proven commissioning and testing experience in automation or material handling
  • Proficient in volume/stress testing and identifying system issues
  • WCS/WMS experience, including data analysis (e.g., SAP WMS)
  • Previous roles as a Test Manager or Commissioning Engineer in automation/material handling
  • Proficient in Excel for data verification and reporting
  • Safety-focused, with CSCS/ECS cards for on-site work

Qualifications:

  • ECS card required for site work. (ECS in relation to the function of a System Integration Manager or Test Manager is essential)
  • Adherence to safety protocols (hard hats, boots, etc.)

Typical Day

  • Morning planning meeting with the System Integration Manager
  • Execute tests, record results, and report progress
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with the team
