Protection & Control Engineer

We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Protection & Control Engineer to join our team on a contract basis. This role is focusing on National Grid projects, requiring a deep understanding of substation design and protection and control systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working on National Grid projects and a proven track record in substation design. This position offers flexible working arrangements and is outside IR35.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement protection and control schemes for primary and secondary substations, ensuring they meet National Grid standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Design and review protection and control systems, including relay settings, wiring diagrams, and communication systems.
  • Conduct fault analysis and coordination studies to ensure system reliability and protection.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to integrate protection and control systems into overall substation designs.
  • Perform site visits and assessments to gather data and support design processes.
  • Provide technical support during the installation, testing, and commissioning phases of projects.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, including design specifications, reports, and drawings.
  • Ensure all designs are compliant with relevant safety and quality standards.
  • Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and contractors to ensure clear communication and project alignment.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with protection and control systems.

Experience:

  • Proven experience in protection and control engineering, specifically within National Grid projects.
  • Extensive experience in substation design, including hands-on design work.
  • Strong understanding of National Grid standards, regulations, and protection schemes.
  • Proficiency in using relevant design software and tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
