Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Commercial Manager to oversee and drive the financial and contractual aspects of civil engineering projects. This role will play a key part in ensuring the successful delivery of projects, maximizing profitability, and maintaining strong client relationships. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering, infrastructure, or construction, with proven expertise in commercial management and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the financial and contractual performance of multiple projects, ensuring profitability and compliance with contractual obligations.
- Lead the preparation, review, and negotiation of contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Manage procurement processes, including selecting and appointing subcontractors and suppliers.
- Monitor project budgets, forecasts, and costs, providing detailed financial reporting to senior stakeholders.
- Identify and manage commercial risks, implementing mitigation strategies as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with legal, contractual, and company standards across all projects.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Support project teams in resolving commercial issues, including claims and disputes.
- Provide mentoring and guidance to junior team members to foster their development.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven experience as a Commercial Manager in the civil engineering, infrastructure, or construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of contract management, particularly NEC and JCT contracts.
- Demonstrated expertise in cost control, budget management, and financial reporting.
- Excellent negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients and stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficiency in relevant software, such as MS Excel, project management tools, and accounting systems.
- A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB) is an advantage.
