Primary Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Primary Engineer to join our team on a contract basis. This role is focused on National Grid projects, requiring substantial hands-on design work. The successful candidate will have mid-senior level experience and a strong background in primary substation design. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional looking to contribute to critical infrastructure projects with a reputable organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed designs for primary substations, ensuring compliance with National Grid standards and regulations.
  • Perform hands-on design tasks including but not limited to, layout design, equipment specification, and system integration.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Conduct site surveys and assessments as needed to inform design processes.
  • Provide technical support and expertise during the construction and commissioning phases.
  • Ensure that project timelines are met and that deliverables are completed to the highest standards.
  • Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and contractors to ensure clear communication and alignment on project objectives.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, including design reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with design and implementation phases.

Experience:

  • Proven experience working on National Grid projects is essential.
  • Extensive experience in primary substation design, including hands-on design work.
  • Strong understanding of National Grid standards and regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
