Job Purpose:To operate the loading shovel and other plant and equipment at waste sites for Leicestershire County Council. Responsibilities include operating machinery, loading vehicles, maintaining sites, and ensuring a safe and efficient service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver services for the benefit of Leicestershire residents.
  2. Engage positively with internal and external site users, maintaining cooperative relationships.
  3. Ensure efficient and effective delivery of activities.
  4. Receive deliveries, verify records, and communicate with drivers/contractors for safe site operations.
  5. Maintain accurate and current paper-based and electronic records.
  6. Use equipment and systems, including the weighbridge, to ensure safe and efficient site operations.
  7. Operate the loading shovel and plant to manage and bulk waste.
  8. Operate telehandler (when trained and approved) and baler (once trained) to load/unload products on site.
  9. Operate other equipment as needed to sort, clean, compact, or shred waste.
  10. Load outgoing vehicles according to driver/offtaker specifications and document accurately.
  11. Maintain a clean and tidy work environment.
  12. Assist the Waste Management Supervisor in inducting site users and ensuring safe site use.
  13. Adhere to health and safety, quality, and environmental management systems and procedures.
  14. Support new team members to ensure understanding of processes and procedures.
  15. Identify opportunities to improve customer service and recycling rates.
  16. Support the achievement of all service levels.

Special Factors:

  • Work may involve outside normal working hours, including bank holidays, weekends, and out-of-hours.
  • Work may be required at different locations across the County.
  • Attendance at training courses, conferences, seminars, or other meetings as needed.
  • Expenses will be paid in accordance with Local Conditions of Service.
