We are looking for a Locum Mental Health Occupational Therapist Lead to cover an assignment with the Ministry of Defence (MoD), at DMRC Stanford Hall, in Loughborough, Leicestershire.

Work pattern: Monday - Friday (37.5 hours)

The successful applicant will deliver an exceptional standard of care to the MoD service personnel and their families.

Pay Rate:

Payee - £26.64 per hour

Umbrella - £30.32 per hour

Job Description:

  • The Occupational Therapy (OT) Lead will work autonomously, without direct supervision and be accountable for own professional actions. They will support the delivery of a peripatetic OT service within OH.
  • Deliver care for the Defence service population, liaising with the chain of command (CoC), single services (sS) and other specialist Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) pillars.
  • Assess and evaluate work demands, to facilitate the employment of downgraded service personnel and those with additional employment requirements.
  • Be skilled at assessing Service Personnel with a range of diagnoses and interpreting complex biopsychosocial factors which may impact on the Service Person’s ability to return to work, including the impact on functional capacity of the diagnosis and prognosis.
  • Undertake specific OT standardised and non-standardised assessments of function and activities such as workplace adaptions, Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) and job demand analysis. This will involve lone working, making complex clinical decisions and generating specialist reports.
  • Application of human factor and vocational rehabilitation principles in clinical activities such as ergonomic and workplace assessments, and job demand analysis, alongside other OT / OH clinical activities.
  • Provide specialist advice and guidance to service personnel, the CoC and other healthcare professionals following OT / OH intervention, aligned to professional and organisational policies.
  • Deliver complex, specialist OT and OH interventions, collaboratively with the service personnel and the CoC.
  • Use advanced clinical reasoning to interpret and analyse highly complex clinical and non-clinical evidence to develop comprehensive intervention plans in support of return or retention in work.

Secondary Functions

  • The Occupational Therapy (OT) Lead will be the representative of the OT cadre and act as clinical lead within Occupational Health (OH).
  • Development of relevant policy and procedures in relation to OT clinical delivery aligned to the OT Employment Directive, and National standards and guidelines.
  • Provide focussed and timely feedback and advice to HQ DHRG in relation to the OT cadre within OH and represent OT cadre at meetings or forums where indicated.
  • Lead with clinical supervision and support PADR development for Band 6 OTs, alongside the ROHA
  • Support DHRG SO1 OH in the coordination of the OT cadre in support of OH delivery and outcomes to meet the needs of key stakeholders.
  • OT Lead will escalate any threats or opportunities to the OT cadre, directly to DHRG SO1 OH.

Essential requirements/ Qualifications/ Experience:

  • Current certificate of Hepatitis B, Rubella, measles, and Varicella immunity
  • Current driving licence. The role is peripatetic and cannot be delivered using public transport.
  • Completing or working towards postgraduate / Level 7 training in Occupational Health, Vocational Rehabilitation or other relevant field of practice
  • May be required to work outside of standard working hours and support other DPHC sites where there is a business need for them to do so. This will be within a reasonable travelling distance defined in MoD policy.
