We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Cafe Manager to oversee the operations and growth of two unique cafe sites and one griddle cart located at different stations. This role is perfect for a customer-focused, results-driven professional with a passion for providing exceptional service and driving revenue growth.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Operational Leadership: Manage the day-to-day operations of two cafes and a griddle cart, ensuring high service quality, cleanliness, and adherence to safety standards.
  • Team Management: Recruit, train, and lead a diverse team, including setting performance expectations and providing ongoing coaching.
  • Customer Experience: Develop a culture of exceptional service, tailor experiences to reflect the historical period of each station, and handle customer feedback efficiently.
  • Financial Management: Collaborate with senior management to develop and manage budgets, implement cost-control measures, and drive profitability.
  • Menu and Product Management: Work with suppliers and the On-Board Dining Manager to source high-quality products and update menus to reflect local tastes and historical themes.
  • Service Delivery: Improve service efficiency, ensure reliable menu availability, and cater to group bookings.
  • Marketing and Promotion: Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team to devise strategies that enhance cafe visibility and attract both local and visitor patronage.
  • Stock Management: Manage stock levels, order supplies, and ensure efficient stock rotation.
  • Compliance and Licensing: Maintain compliance with alcohol licensing and food safety standards.
  • Performance Reporting: Regularly report on cafe performance, identifying improvement and growth opportunities.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Cafe or Restaurant Manager (minimum two years).
  • Strong knowledge of food safety requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good financial acumen with the ability to manage budgets effectively.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Desirable: Professional qualification in Hospitality Management, personal alcohol licence, experience with volunteer workforce, and a passion for heritage railways.
