The Role

As a Senior Tax Accountant, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance with UK tax laws, minimizing risks, and maintaining high standards in tax practices. This role requires a strong foundation in tax compliance, governance, and strategy. You will provide accurate reporting, support audits, and collaborate across departments to uphold best practices. The position involves both advisory and compliance functions, requiring strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication with internal teams and external partners.

The ideal candidate will be a versatile tax professional who can navigate complex tax landscapes while providing exceptional service and strategic advice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage statutory accounts, corporation tax returns, management accounts, VAT returns, charity accounts, self-assessments, and partnership tax returns.
  • Reconcile tax schedules, calculations, and disclosure notes for year-end reporting.
  • Manage corporate tax charges, SAO submissions, and VAT return submissions.
  • Provide tax compliance and advisory services for personal and corporate tax matters, including assisting with overseas tax and operational departments.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, managing their financial affairs and offering tax-efficient advice.
  • Oversee client portfolios, ensuring timely completion of year-end accounts, tax returns, and VAT returns.
  • Liaise with HMRC, Companies House, and other relevant authorities to resolve issues and maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Allocate tasks to junior team members, review their work, and manage team workflows to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Collaborate with audit teams, preparing audit working papers and engaging in client visits.
  • Provide bookkeeping, bank reconciliation, and VAT calculations for a range of Ltd companies.
  • Consistently meet deadlines while maintaining high standards, contributing to client retention and acquiring new clients through referrals.

Accounting & Tax Software Experience

  • QuickBooks Certified ProAdvisor, Xero, Sage 50, Sage Accounts Production, Sage Advanced, Tax Filer, VT, Dext, Case Ware, Virtual Cabinet.
  • Proficient in using IRIS software and TaxCalc.
  • Advanced MS Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Required Work Experience

  • Managing teams and collaborate with partners to ensure compliance with deadlines and statutory requirements for accounts, tax, VAT, and financial compliance.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, managing financial affairs and assisting with foreign tax and overseas compliance.
  • Oversee year-end accounts, corporation tax returns, self-assessments, partnership tax returns, and VAT returns for a diverse portfolio of clients.
  • Liaise with HMRC and Companies House to resolve issues and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Allocate tasks to junior colleagues, reviewing their work to ensure quality and adherence to deadlines.
  • Collaborate with audit teams, preparation of audit working papers and participating in client visits.
  • Provide bookkeeping, bank reconciliation, and VAT calculations for various Ltd companies.
  • Consistently meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards, contributing to client retention and acquiring new clients through referrals.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Qualified Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA), ACA, ACCA, or CIMA (part-qualified considered)
  • 2-3 years experience in Corporate Tax and/or Indirect Taxes
  • ATT or similar professional qualification
  • MSc / BSc / BA degree in related area

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of CorpTax software, QuickBooks, TaxCalc
  • Solid accountancy practice background
