Connect2Luton are excited to recruit a Business Support Officer on behalf of Luton Borough Council.

Main purpose of position:

To support and assist the Business Support Manager, with the coordination and the compliance of the Divisions policies and procedures relating to statutory and local government compliance. Under the delegated responsibility of the Business Support Manager work as directed to support them in the managing, monitoring and ensuring delivery of an effective and efficient administration service and to provide appropriate and proactive assistance, advice and support to the different Operational departments within Building and Technical Services (BTS) Luton Borough Council, in relation to the Divisions key performance management areas.

You will be responsible to:

路Assist the Business Support Manager by managing a compliance programme that ensures that all relevant statutory legislation, relating to key performance management areas, is met.

路Record the results of such programmes in an auditable method to provide reports on performance.

路Responsible for planning, scheduling and leading on all mandatory training for the BTS Operational staff. Source the training provider on best value for money and ensure the content of the training meets the requirements of the Division.

路Proactively follow up the completion of individual performance and assessment documents, offering guidance and support so that BTS complies with the corporate policy and guidelines.

路Ensure BTS complies with the corporate recruitment and selection process by providing support and guidance to BTS Management to ensure the timely and efficient achievement of recruiting the right skills for the Division to meet its operational targets.

路Responsible for the planning and control of the day-to-day activities of the Administration Assistants, so that they carry out their principal responsibilities effectively and efficiently to meet workload and demand, ensuring adherence to LBC and BTS policies and procedure.

路Responsible for recording information assuring all compliance information is kept up to date as required by departmental and corporate procedures.

Skills and Experience:

  • Use initiative, skill and experience to take supportive initiatives to resolve compliance queries under guidance of the Business Support Manager
  • Able to communicate effectively and politely, in writing, verbally,and making presentations over a range of people including internal colleagues and external agencies
  • Able to use computer technologies including word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail, databases, especially Excel
  • Able to produce comprehensible reports and maintain written work records, including compiling papers for hearings
  • Able to work on own initiative within guidelines, planning, prioritising and organising work
  • Able to work to procedures, guidelines and targets / deadlines
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of equality issues and the effects of discrimination on service delivery and on the people you are working with
  • Some knowledge of Health and Safety Law - Employment law and ongoing UK legislation - for purposes of compliance. Knowledge of issues affecting the construction industry within local authorities
