Connect2Luton are excited to recruit a Casual Registration and Ceremonies Officer on behalf of Luton Borough Council.

Main purpose of position:

Register births, deaths & stillbirths, marriage/civil partnership notices and all statutory and non-statutory services. Conduct marriage/civil partnership ceremonies in accordance with statutory provisions. Conduct Citizenship Ceremonies.

Responsible for the administration of the Council's functions relating to

non statutory functions, Baby Naming, Re-affirmation of Vows, Commitment Ceremonies.

You will be responsible to:

  • Register Births, Deaths, Still Births, in accordance with statutory regulations and the Registrar General. Ensuring the safe custody and maintenance of registers, records and indices of events as appropriate and act as Deputy Superintendent Registrar.
  • To register marriages and civil partnerships in local religious buildings and approved marriage venues.
  • To attest notices of, and issue authorities/schedules for marriages and civil partnerships. As a Designated Register Office attest notices and issue authorities/schedules for, marriages and civil partnerships for couples that are subject to Immigration control under the Designated Office instructions.
  • Conduct marriages and civil partnerships ceremonies as a Deputy Superintendent Registrar according to statue.
  • Conduct non-statutory ceremonies including (but not limited to), citizenship, renewal of vows, and naming ceremonies (together referred to as "ceremonies").
  • To be responsible for the receiving, accounting and banking of money in accordance with the Council's banking and cash handling procedures. Accounting for all secure stock used and monies taken on a monthly and yearly basis. Ensure that all security and non-security stock is managed and ordered via GRO at an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Act in any other capacity in the Local Registration Service, particularly to carry out any administrative role that may be required by the service.

Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience of working with administrative procedures
  • Able to deal politely and sympathetically with members of the public
  • Computer literate including ability to use Windows based spreadsheets competently
  • Able to speak effectively in public and to be able maintain dignity of ceremonies
  • Demonstrable ability to work effectively in a team
  • GCSE or equivalent experience
  • Able to attend sites throughout the Borough
  • Able to work Saturdays (and very occasional Sundays and Public Holidays).
