Are you a Psychology or Criminology graduate passionate about helping young people? Do you aspire to become a Youth Offending Officer or support students with special educational needs? We have an exciting opportunity in Luton to join a supportive team working as an SEMH Teaching Assistant with young people facing challenging behaviours, including those with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs or a history of offending behaviour.

This Luton role is an exciting, full-time position offers a blend of working as an SEMH Teaching Assistant and an Aspiring Youth Offending Officer, providing hands-on experience in both education and criminal justice settings. You'll be working with young people aged 4-19, providing support in academic development, rehabilitating at-risk youth, and fostering positive relationships to help them reintegrate into society.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Youth Offending Officer Focus: Support young offenders in overcoming personal challenges, reducing risky behaviours, and preventing reoffending. Collaborate with probation officers, social workers, and other professionals to create personalised intervention plans.
  • SEMH Teaching Assistant Focus: Assist students with SEMH needs, manage challenging behaviours, and support academic and personal development.
  • Build rapport with individuals, guiding them through rehabilitation and skills development.
  • Promote social integration, responsibility, and healthy choices.
  • Work alongside professionals to provide holistic support to vulnerable young people.

We're Looking For:

  • A graduate in Criminology, Psychology, or a related field with a strong interest in youth justice or supporting students with SEMH needs.
  • While prior experience is beneficial, full training and support will be provided.
  • A calm, empathetic, and patient approach to working with young people.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
  • A proactive attitude and genuine desire to make a difference.
  • Ideally local to Luton and ready for a full-time or long-term role.
