Job Overview:
We are seeking a proactive and confident Cover Supervisor to join our dynamic team at a secondary school in Luton. The successful candidate will provide classroom cover for teachers during planned or unplanned absences. This role is essential in maintaining continuity in students' learning, ensuring they stay on task and engaged. No formal teaching qualification is required, but you must possess excellent classroom management skills and the ability to build strong rapport with students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise classes in the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring that students remain on task and complete set work.
  • Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies, promoting a positive and focused learning environment.
  • Follow the lesson plans provided by the teacher and distribute any necessary resources.
  • Provide support to students where required, ensuring that they understand the work and stay engaged.
  • Report any concerns or issues to the relevant Head of Department or senior leadership team.
  • Maintain a professional and calm demeanour while managing a variety of student behaviours.
  • Provide feedback to the regular class teacher on student performance and behaviour during their absence.
  • Assist in other areas of the school as needed, including break-time supervision or administrative support.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Previous experience working with secondary school students, ideally in an educational setting.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to maintain a disciplined yet positive atmosphere.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Requirements:

  • Must be available for an ASAP start.
  • A DBS check will be required before starting the role.

Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
Salary: Competitive, based on experience
