Role Overview

This role is central to ensuring that the firm complies with regulatory requirements, including Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) standards, Lexcel accreditation, Anti Money Laundering (AML), GDPR, Cyber Essentials, and health and safety protocols. You will report to and work closely with the Practice Manager to develop robust compliance processes, provide administrative support to our Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP) and Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration (COFA), and maintain the firm’s high standards across all regulatory areas.

In this role, you'll:

  • Ensure the firm remains fully compliant with all Solicitors Regulation Authority requirements, staying updated on regulatory changes.
  • Oversee and continuously improve our Lexcel manual and accreditation, ensuring we meet the highest standards of practice management.
  • Assist the Practice Manager with Anti-Money Laundering compliance, conducting audits, and maintaining best practices.
  • Support the development and implementation of data protection processes to safeguard client and internal data.
  • Assist with updating and enforcing health and safety policies, ensuring a compliant and safe workplace.
  • Provide daily administrative support to our COLP & COFA ensure compliance is managed effectively across the firm.
  • Identify potential compliance risks and work proactively to mitigate them.
  • Help maintain Cyber Essentials accreditation, collaborating with external IT providers to ensure our systems are secure.
  • Organise and deliver training on key compliance topics like AML, GDPR, and health and safety.
  • Conduct regular audits and provide detailed compliance reports to the partners, highlighting any areas for improvement.
  • Participate in marketing and networking activities, whether firm wide, departmental or office basis.

What We’re Looking For:

We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Compliance Manager with a strong track record in regulatory compliance, within the legal sector or other highly regulated sectors like banking or finance.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • At least 3 years of experience in a compliance role, preferably in the legal sector, or a similarly regulated industry such as finance or banking.
  • In-depth knowledge of key regulatory frameworks, including SRA regulations, Lexcel standards, Anti-Money Laundering (AML) laws, GDPR, and health and safety protocols.
  • Proven experience managing compliance audits, implementing corrective measures, and maintaining accreditation standards such as Lexcel and Cyber Essentials.
  • Experience with the Cyber Essentials framework and its requirements for achieving and maintaining accreditation, along with knowledge of cybersecurity principles, including threat identification and risk management.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously, ensuring compliance requirements are met promptly and efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly convey complex compliance requirements to staff at all levels, ensuring a collaborative approach to compliance across the firm.
