Location: Greater Manchester – Hybrid 3 days a week in the office.

Sector: Legal - Commercial Contracts

I am delighted to be working with a long-standing client on this in-house Solicitor role. With an impressive portfolio of clients and suppliers this role will offer variety, progression and the chance to join a small, friendly team.

About the Role:

This is a unique opportunity to work in a challenging but rewarding role as part of an established and friendly in-house legal team. With processes and procedures fully embedded in the business, including a suite of precedent contracts, and a playbook, you will work closely with 3 other lawyers with significant contact with senior managers and directors on a variety of commercial and legal work in a fast-paced environment.

This role allows for the opportunity to develop and become more autonomous with increasing responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be a key contact and legal advisor to the purchasing team and support functions comprising HR, Finance, IT, Sales, Marketing, Safety & Wellbeing and Pensions
  • Ensure viable contracts that are legally robust and in line with policies and procedures, playbook and sign off process.
  • Foster a culture of trust and confidence with our internal and external clients.
  • Be accountable for ensuring all contracts are in place prior to supply of goods/commencement of services, or renewed and extended on time and identify when contract variation is necessary.
  • Lead or assist in the negotiation and re-negotiation process in relation to client contracts and involve all support functions in those negotiations.
  • Be responsible for supporting the Legal and Compliance Director
  • Assist in the supervision and support of the solicitors and paralegal in the team.
  • Support in developing and delivering training resources for an online portal on GDPR, Bribery and Corruption and other key legislative developments impacting the business.

All About you:

  • 3/4 + years PQE
  • Experience in a well-known/national law firm preferred.
  • Beneficial to have some in house experience in a corporate business. It would be ideal if you have some experience of dealing with commercial contracts.
  • Proven experience of drafting and negotiation skills.
  • The ideal candidate will be committed, driven, able to work autonomously (where appropriate) as well as working closely as part of a collaborative team and with some initiative.
  • A self-starter, confident and competent to work alone, but also not afraid to seek support where appropriate.
  • A clear, concise and thoughtful drafting style, with the ability to create clear and unambiguous clauses from precedent or (with support) from scratch.
  • The ability to understand, interpret, and apply commercial principles in the provision of legal services, particularly in respect of charging and risk evaluation.
