Scientist Histology (12 month Fixed Term Contract)

Salary - up to £35,000 (depending on experience and interview performance)

Our client is a scientifically passionate company who lead extensive collaborations and offer services to the Drug Discovery and Disease Research sectors. They collaborate with lead researchers and organisations to enhance the understanding of immunological, oncological, neurological and other disease areas.

Based in Alderley Park, they are offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and hard-working individual to join their Biomarker team on a fixed-term basis (initially a 12 month contract) as a Scientist. If you are looking to work on exciting pre-clinical and clinical Histology projects and want to further your career, then this could be the opportunity you have been waiting for.

The Role

This is a role for a BSc or MSc holder (or equivalent experience) who has gained additional experience in tissue / histological laboratories in industry or academia.

As a Scientist, you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the biomarker team with various laboratory projects involving pre-clinical and clinical tissue samples (in vivo and human).
  • Handling human and in vivo tissue samples, preparing them for analysis and storing them correctly.
  • Embedding and sectioning of tissues (FFPE and frozen samples) using microtomy and cryotomy equipment.
  • Staining of tissue samples using a wide variety of stains including H&E etc.
  • Preparing tissue samples for immunohistochemistry (IHC), ISH and immunofluorescence analysis.
  • Ensuring project deadlines are hit and that the work has been completed to the expected standard.
  • Working in a team of other scientists and collaborating with other departments (imaging, biomarker, in vivo etc).
  • Keeping an updated and accurate record of experiments.

Skills and Experience Needed:

Suitable applicants must have:

  • A BSc in a biological, or equivalent, discipline (essential, equivalent experience welcome)
  • Proven experience (preferably 2+ years) in working on histological projects (essential)
  • Significant experience in FFPE and / or frozen tissue sample preparation including the use of a microtome (essential)
  • Significant experience in tissue staining methods including H&E, immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry (essential)
  • Ability to plan and execute projects whilst managing your own workload and time (essential)
