Job Summary:
The Construction Planning Engineer is responsible for developing detailed project schedules, coordinating resources, and ensuring that construction projects are executed efficiently. The role requires expertise in planning and scheduling software, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with project teams. The Planning Engineer plays a key role in monitoring project progress and adjusting schedules as necessary to ensure timely project completion.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning and Scheduling:
Develop, review, and refine comprehensive project schedules for complex projects using advanced planning software (Primavera P6, MS Project, etc.).
Break down large projects into detailed tasks, deliverables, and dependencies, ensuring logical sequencing of construction or engineering activities.
Carry out Material Take Offs from tender/construction drawings to establish man hours required.
Create baseline schedules, incorporating project scope, timelines, resources, and constraints.
Ensure schedules are aligned with project budgets and timelines.
Resource Allocation:
Assess manpower, equipment, and material requirements for project tasks.
Coordinate the allocation and scheduling of resources, ensuring optimal utilization.
Detail resources required and engage in resource loading within the schedule to ensure timely execution of project schedule
Communicate with procurement and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of materials.
Progress Monitoring and Reporting:
Track progress against the project schedule, identifying any deviations or delays.
Update schedules regularly and generate reports for project managers, clients, and stakeholders.
Propose corrective actions to mitigate schedule slippages or cost overruns.
Create trackers to ensure progress is accurately recorded and demonstrated within the schedule
Produce Progress Reports, Scurves and productivity reports, format to be agreed pending on clients requirements
Track Expended Hours as
Coordination and Communication:
Liaise with project managers, site engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure all parties are aware of project timelines and milestones.
Attend site meetings to gather updates and address any planning-related issues.
Communicate changes in the schedule to all stakeholders and ensure everyone is aligned with any adjustments.
Risk Management:
Identify potential risks or delays that may impact project timelines.
Develop contingency plans and incorporate them into the schedule to minimize disruptions.
Proactively manage changes in project scope, schedule, or resources.
Software and Tools:
Proficient use of project management and planning software (Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Excel or similar).
Ensure accurate and timely updates of the schedule in the planning software.
Analyze critical path and float for project activities, ensuring project timelines are realistic.
Cost and Budget Monitoring:
Ensure that planning aligns with the project's financial objectives and limitations.
Adjust schedules to optimize cost-efficiency without compromising project quality.
Skills and Qualifications:
3-5+ years of experience in construction planning and scheduling.
Proficiency in scheduling software such as Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar tools.
Strong understanding of construction processes, methods, and best practices.
Ability to interpret technical drawings and construction documents.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Analytical mindset with a focus on problem-solving and risk mitigation.
Knowledge of cost control, resource allocation, and budgeting processes.
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology.
Experience with large-scale construction or infrastructure projects.
Knowledge of safety regulations and quality standards in the construction industry.
Working Conditions:
May be required to travel between project sites.
Flexibility in working hours may be needed to meet project deadlines.
