Speech and Language Therapist- Band 7

Candidate must be dysphagia competent and have experience of adult acute ward work. We would consider a suitable dysphagia trained Band 7 therapist for 4 days per week/ 30 hours per week.

The Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) in Adult Acute Care is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and managing communication, language, and swallowing disorders in adults within an acute healthcare setting. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the SLT will deliver evidence-based interventions to enhance patients' quality of life, support their recovery, and facilitate their return to functional independence. This role requires expertise in adult communication and swallowing impairments, a strong understanding of acute medical conditions, and a compassionate approach to patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis:

    • Conduct comprehensive assessments of speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in adult patients admitted to the acute setting.
    • Utilize standardized and non-standardized tools to diagnose impairments related to conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, neurological disorders, respiratory illness, and postoperative complications.
    • Identify and document communication and swallowing impairments, and determine appropriate therapy goals for each patient.
