We are looking for a compassionate, dedicated, and experienced Teaching Assistant to join a resource base team at a lovely school in Maidenhead. This is a fantastic opportunity to support children, including those who are non-verbal, in their educational journey.

Key Responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant (Autism Support):

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to children with Autism, both verbal and non-verbal, in a resource base setting.
  • Assist with classroom activities, ensuring students engage in a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Use personalized strategies to support communication, behaviour, and emotional regulation for children with Autism.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher, special educational needs (SEN) team, and external professionals to deliver tailored support plans.
  • Promote the development of social skills, self-esteem, and independence for students.

Essential Criteria for a Teaching Assistant (Autism Support):

  • Experience working with children with Autism in a school or professional setting.
  • Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and effective support strategies.
  • Patience, empathy, and a calm, adaptable approach to challenging situations.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to use alternative communication methods (PECS, Makaton, etc.) being a bonus.
  • A team player, ready to collaborate and learn.

Desirable Criteria for a Teaching Assistant (Autism Support):

  • Experience in supporting non-verbal children with Autism.
  • A relevant qualification in Special Educational Needs (SEN) or equivalent experience.
  • Training in Autism-specific interventions or behavioural approaches (e.g., ABA, TEACCH).
