About the LSA Role:As an LSA, you will work with children who live in residential homes due to the severity of their needs and attend specialist schools. You’ll play a crucial role in helping them engage with their learning and personal development. A key aspect of this role is supporting children with Autism, including both verbal and non-verbal students.
There is a strong focus on supporting:
- Children with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA).
- Speech and Language Therapy interventions.
- Autistic girls who may mask their difficulties more effectively than boys.
- Autistic boys and girls with complex communication needs.
Through creative approaches and therapeutic techniques, you’ll help children express themselves, manage emotional and sensory challenges, and build essential life skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with complex needs.
- Assist with tailored educational plans and sensory-based activities.
- Promote emotional regulation and social communication through creative methods.
- Collaborate with therapists and educators to implement effective strategies.
- Observe and monitor student progress, sharing insights with the wider team.
- Support students with personal care (training provided if required).
What We’re Looking For:
- A degree in Drama or a related field.
- A passion for working with children with additional needs, particularly Autism and PMLD.
- Strong communication skills and a patient, empathetic approach.
- An interest in therapy-based careers such as Drama Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Clinical Psychology.
- Experience working with children (desirable but not essential).
- A proactive and creative mindset to help children overcome barriers to learning.
