About the Role - Multi-Skilled Operative/Maintenance Person

Ensure the security of the establishment, and that the building is safe and compliant with current regulations. To upkeep general maintenance, service of internal and external buildings and surrounding areas. Specific duties will vary according to the short break unit.

We have 7 positions available in various locations across Kent.

Dartford, Gravesend, Faversham, Ashford, Ash, Cranbrook.

What is the day-to-day of the role

  • Undertake general repairs and maintenance around the home, inside and out, including decorating, repairs on furnishings and buildings to ensure a safe environment is maintained. Liaising with the Home Manager to identify any priorities.
  • Implement and monitor all Health and Safety at work requirements and any relevant legislation. Assist in keeping facilities management logs up to date, along with regulation paperwork.
  • Maintain cleanliness and general tidiness of all external hard areas, Inspect outside fabric of building and all fences, gates, walls, steps, lights, etc. Report/repair defects as appropriate.
  • Maintain landscaping of external areas to include grass mowing, pruning and other aspects of gardening as required.
  • Undertake Minor plumbing repairs i.e. fixing or replacing taps, unblocking toilets, repair minor leaks, replacement of TRVs etc.
  • Monitor the boiler/heating systems and order oil supplies (if relevant) to ensure it is kept running on a day-to-day basis to meet the home's needs.
  • Assist the operational staff where required / directed to do so to move furniture, etc
  • Oversee the annual testing of electrical portable appliances in the home.
  • Undertake any reasonable duties as may be required by the Home Manager.

Required Skills and Qualification

  • Previous experience of general building maintenance and gardening.
  • Ability to use a range of basic tools and machinery.
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements / COSHH etc
  • Able to work with and be sensitive to the needs of children and their families.
