The Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Commissioning Engineer (Electrical Bias) to join our team working within the framework for Southern Water. You will play a crucial role in the successful commissioning of water treatment plants or related infrastructure projects, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of these essential facilities. This is a contract-based position with a minimum duration of 6 months, with the potential for extension based on performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Commissioning Leadership:

  • Lead and manage commissioning activities for electrical systems within water treatment plants or related infrastructure projects.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive commissioning plans and strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and Southern Water specifications.

Technical Expertise:

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to the commissioning team, including engineers and technicians.
  • Conduct thorough pre-commissioning inspections and testing of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Perform functional testing and performance verification of all electrical systems, including power distribution, control panels, instrumentation, and SCADA systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues identified during commissioning.

Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure that all electrical systems meet design specifications and performance requirements.
  • Identify and address potential quality issues promptly and efficiently.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Prepare and maintain detailed commissioning records and documentation, including test results, defect logs, and handover documents.
  • Provide regular progress reports to the project manager or designated lead.

Teamwork & Collaboration:

  • Collaborate effectively with other members of the commissioning team, project engineers, site supervisors, contractors, and Southern Water representatives.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in commissioning water treatment plants or similar infrastructure projects, with a strong electrical focus.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing commissioning teams.
  • A deep understanding of electrical systems, including power distribution, control systems, instrumentation, and automation.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols for electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Desirable:

  • Experience with SCADA systems and control systems used in water treatment plants.
  • Knowledge of commissioning software and tools.
  • First Aid certification.
